Before Karen and I launched Nine Media back in 2013, we spent months planning our new, exciting venture. And one of the most fun things to plan was our website. We spent hours writing and re-writing the copy, finding a template for our site, and fixing on a brand logo (thanks to Michael Thomson, our fab designer and all-round tech-support).
Of course, every site needs fabulous images. Luckily for us, Karen’s husband Andrew Parsons is a world-famous photographer, with his own agency, so we were able to borrow him for an afternoon to take our official website shots. In an East London studio, we zhuzhed ourselves up as best we could, and tried to look professional (i.e. stop cracking up) as we posed for the photos.
We were really pleased with the final product. And it’s been a great ‘shop front’ for our business. But if one thing is guaranteed in this insanely fast-paced digital world we now live in, it’s that nothing stays still. And what looked modern in 2013, needs a BIG freshen up in 2017.
Plus, Karen had pointed out that we both looked a bit ‘Cagney and Lacey’ in our old pose. I couldn’t get that out of my head. It was time for a change.
It was great timing, as our broadcast supremo Helen Croydon was now on board – Nine Media was a trio. Michael got to work on our new website (again). But we needed NEW PHOTOS!
So, we all went down to Millennium Bridge in central London one bone-chillingly cold February afternoon to take our new shots. Life lesson learned? If you think it’s hard work posing in a studio (trying to look professional, friendly and natural is way harder than it looks), then having your photo taken in public is another level. We soon became used to hundreds of tourists peering nosily at us, trying to check out whether we were famous or not (and looking disappointed when they worked out we weren’t).
It was totally worth it, though. We’re really happy with our shiny new website. Look!
