It’s a strange time of year – that time when everyone’s mind is on the Christmas break, their impending office party, (or carb-loading to try and deal with the after-effects of the party from last night).
All of which means it can be a difficult time to know what to pitch in to features and content teams on different outlets. Ever the helpful elves, we’ve put together a quick handy guide to give you a mince-pie-crumbed hand this festive season.
Long-lead titles: These guys are all about forward planning. So much so, that Christmas was over for them once September hit (true). So to immediately become their absolute favourite PR ever, start sending in your best pitches, interviews, case studies or feature opps for their spring (or later) issues.
Short-lead titles: Working on a weekly is all about ‘pulling back’ for Christmas – putting together issues in shorter time to make sure you don’t fall behind during the Christmas break. Which means that up until that break they’re flat out.
Instead, become super-helpful by pitching in timely ideas during the quiet week between Christmas and New Year. There’ll be a skeleton staff in, hunting round for stories and many PR teams won’t be working. It’s a great lull period to swoop in and steal a march on your rivals.
Digital titles: there’s no festive break for these guys as online never sleeps. So much like the short-lead titles above, take advantage of the quieter post-Christmas week to pitch in some fantastic opps to your target outlets. And because digital is immediate, you can be as reactive to what’s going on in the news as possible.
And finally – before you send that pitch, don’t forget to read our four tips before you send it
Happy Christmas from all of us at Nine Media!
