It was Karen – already a successful blogger herself – that suggested we set up a Nine Media blog one day in a Covent Garden café. It was a great idea – that way we’d be able to write about issues that fire us up, inspire us, and keep everyone up to date with what we’re doing at Nine Media.
But of course, it was only a sidebar to the main focus of our work – which is why we were so thrilled to be nominated for Best PR, Comms and Marketing Blog at the inaugural UK Blog Awards 2014.
The awards ceremony was held last Friday evening at the Grange St Paul’s hotel in London and no – we didn’t win. Boo. But it was fantastic to be part of such an inspiring night, which saw bloggers from the length and breadth of the country, writing about topics as varied as cars, fashion, food, tech and lifestyle rewarded for their achievements.
Blogging is a huge, innovative world which has created a whole new way in which anyone can build up a publishing platform, and find an audience (and often, a way to make a living).
Of course, many blogs are just for personal musings, but successful bloggers have turned this nascent industry into a powerhouse where world-famous brands are keen to team up and become part of the blogger’s world.
It’s an exciting place to be and plenty of blogging awards exist – but until now there had been no industry-wide standard awards – the‘Bl-Oscars’. Entrepreneurial women Gemma Pears and Becki Cross remedied this by starting the UK Blog Awards and judging by the success of last week’s ceremony, it will only go from strength to strength…
